About Plumb & Level
An independent home improvement magazine run by four editors with trade backgrounds.
Plumb & Level is an independent editorial magazine about doing work on your own house. It is published by Plumb & Level Media from Oklahoma City, and it has been online since 2021.
We started it for a simple reason. Most home improvement content on the internet is written to fill a page, by writers who have never held the tool in question, and it shows the moment you are lying under a sink with the job half-finished. Everything here is written by someone who has done the work.
What we cover
Six areas, chosen because they are where households actually spend money and time: power tools and hardware, lawn and garden, kitchen and bath, home decor and lighting, outdoor living, and major appliances. Within those, we publish three kinds of article — buying guides that explain the specifications, step-by-step walkthroughs of jobs a competent amateur can do, and seasonal checklists.
What we are not
We are not a retailer. We do not sell products, we do not take orders, we do not hold stock and we cannot help with an order placed elsewhere. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of any home improvement retailer, manufacturer or brand. Where we mention a company or a product category, it is for identification and comparison only, and all trademarks remain the property of their owners.
How we are funded
Advertising, and nothing else at present. Advertising is sold and served separately from the editorial process; no advertiser sees a piece before publication, and no advertiser has ever been given the ability to change or remove one. If that ever changes — for example if we introduce affiliate links — it will be disclosed prominently on the page it applies to and on our advertising disclosure.
Who writes it
Four editors, each named on every piece they write, each with a working background in what they cover: a remodeling carpenter, a licensed journeyman plumber, a certified master gardener and a lighting designer. Their biographies and full article lists are on the editors page.
Corrections
We get things wrong occasionally. When we do, we correct the article, note the correction on it, and update the modified date. If you have found an error, please tell us — corrections from readers are the most useful email we get.
